Two teams that have started 2016 in winning fashion meet on Wednesday night in Miami when the New York Knicks (17-19) take on the Heat (21-13).
The Knicks were victors of their second straight game on Tuesday, defeating the Atlanta Hawks on the road, 107-101. Carmelo Anthony and Arron Afflalo both contributed the most points for the team with 23 apiece, with Anthony adding 11 rebounds for the double-double. Rookie Kristaps Porzingis contributed a double-double of his own, also hauling in 11 boards to go along with his 17 points. Derrick Williams came off the bench for 15 points as the Knicks have now matched their win total for their entire 2014-15 campaign. New York currently sits at 12th place in the Eastern Conference, but with so little room separating the contenders at the top, all it takes is a strong mid-season run to establish themselves as a lower-seeded Playoff hopeful.
The Heat, first place in the Southeast Division, have also managed to string together a series of wins in the last week, the third of which took place on Monday night with an overtime victory over the visiting Indiana Pacers. Chris Bosh dropped 31 points and had 11 rebounds in the 103-100 win, shooting 13 of 16 from the free throw line in the process. Dwayne Wade added 27 points and 8 rebounds in a match-up that saw Miami shoot only 37.8% from the field, their poorest performance this season. That statistic lies in stark contrast with what they typically muster from the paint, as they rank fourth-best in field goal shooting in the league, averaging 46.2% per game. With the win the Heat improve to 15-7 at home, while sitting at 6-6 on the road. Those seldom road games are about to change for Miami, as they will play 10 of their next 11 contests away from AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Indiana Pacers (19-15) continue a four-game road trip in Florida as they meet the Orlando Magic (19-16) on Wednesday night.
Losers of three of their last four games, the Pacers look to amend their struggles against another slipping Eastern Conference club in the Magic on Wednesday. This after falling in overtime at the Miami Heat on Monday night, 103-100. The team squandered an 18-point lead in the loss, one that saw Paul George lead Indiana in scoring with 32 points. George also made 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc, accounting for more than half of the team's eight triples in the game. Monta Ellis added 17 points as the Pacers are now 2.5 games behind the second-place Chicago Bulls in the Central Division. Indiana have bested Orlando in nine of their last ten meetings.
After a 10-5 December, the Magic find themselves winless in 2016, with an 0-3 record so far this month. All losses have come on the road, the most recent a Monday night blowout at the hands of the Detroit Pistons, 115-89. Victor Oladipo started for the team and led in scoring with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Nikola Vucevic went 8-for-15 from the paint for his 16 points, but it was the lack of contribution from their teammates that ultimately doomed Orlando. In 26 minutes played, Evan Fournier scored no points, going 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-4 from long range. The Magic fare better at home, where they are 12-6, and host five of their next seven games.

1h : Washington Wizards (15-17) - Cleveland Cavaliers (23-9)
he Washington Wizards (15-17) play host to the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers (23-9) at Verizon Center on Wednesday night.
The Cavaliers continue to roll at first place in the East, a position they've become accustomed to for most of their campaign this season, and a riding a four-game winning streak into Washington. The team is fresh off a home court decimation of the Toronto Raptors on Monday night, 122-100. Kyle Lowry led Cleveland in scoring with a season-best 25 points, adding 6 rebounds and 8 assists in the process. J.R. Smith was in rare form from long range in the win that saw him drain eight three-pointers en route to a 24-point night. The Cavs shot 55.4% from the field, much improved from their 44.8% average on the season. Wednesday marks the first of a six-game road stint for Cleveland that will see them face the likes of the Mavericks, Rockets and Spurs.
Washington has brought their inconsistent play into the new year, getting routed by the visiting Miami Heat on Sunday, 97-75. The highest points producer for the Wizards was John Wall, with only 14 points in the loss. Marcin Gortat managed a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds as part of a performance that makes the team look like a shell of the dark horse contender out of the East last season. Washington shot an abysmal 34.1% from the field and 13.8% from downtown and are dead last in the Southeast Division. Things won't get easier for the injury-plagued Wizards (who only saw nine players take the court on Sunday) as they face stiff competition from Toronto, Chicago and Indiana within the next week.

The Detroit Pistons (19-16) and Boston Celtics (19-15) face off in an Eastern Conference showdown on Wednesday night at TD Garden.
The Pistons are coming off of an annihilation of the struggling Magic on Monday night at home, 115-89. All five Detroit starters scored in double digits, with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leading the charge with 21 points and 6 rebounds, making five three-pointers along the way. Andre Drummond added 17 points and was his usual self off the glass with six offensive and six defensive rebounds (for his 30th double-double on the season). The Pistons find themselves inching towards taking over Indiana for third place in the Central Division, a team they sit only a half game behind. Poised for a push into the Playoff picture as mid-season approaches, the Pistons will need to improve their 7-11 record away from the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Celtics also recorded a W on Monday as Jae Crowder put in 25 points to lead Boston to a 103-94 victory over the Nets in Brooklyn. The performance was a career-best for Crowder, who also added 6 rebounds and made 7 of 8 shots from the charity stripe. Crowder is averaging 13.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in the team's 2015-16 campaign. The Celtics' leading scorer on the season, Isaiah Thomas, put in 19 points while Evan Turner recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Boston is a better road team than they are at TD Garden, a trend that will be tested in January as the team plays the majority of their games away from home.

The Toronto Raptors (21-15) will take on Atlantic Division rival Brooklyn Nets (10-24) on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The Raptors will look to snap a two-game skid on Wednesday night. Their most recent loss came on Tuesday against the Cavaliers 122-100. Kyle Lowry led the team in the loss with 23 points (7-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block in 35 minutes. DeMar DeRozan pitched in 19 points (8-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-5 FT), four assists, and two rebounds in 35 minutes. DeMarre Carroll missed the game due to swelling in his right knee and his status for Wednesday is still up in the air. He missed nine games in December with bruising on the same knee so the Raptors may take it slow with Carroll and make sure he is 100 percent healthy before letting him take the court again. The Raptors have dropped their past two games against the Nets, but they have yet to play this season.
After defeating the Celtics to open the New Year, the Celtics were out for revenge in their rematch just two days later on Monday night, defeating the Nets 103-94. Thaddeus Young led the way for the Nets in the loss with 23 points (9-18 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal in just under 38 minutes. Joe Johnson pitched in 21 points (8-15 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, and four assists in 35 minutes. During Monday's game Johnson bruised his right quad and is listed as questionable for Wednesday. Rookie Chris McCullough sat out of Tuesday's practice due to an illness while also nursing a knee injury. Head coach Lionel Hollins said McCullough is essentially "redshirting" the season. The Nets are endanger of losing their eighth straight game at home on Wednesday night.

The Dallas Mavericks (20-15) will take on the New Orleans Pelicans (11-22) on Wednesday night at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
The Mavericks were dangerously close to dropping three games in a row, but came away with a thrilling 117-116 double overtime win over the Kings on Tuesday night, giving Dallas their first victory in the new year. Deron Williams, who was questionable heading into Tuesday night, led the Mavericks with 25 points (10-18 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-4 FT), along with four assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 43 minutes. Zaza Pachulia contributed nine points (4-11 FG, 1-2 FT), a game-high 17 rebounds, and five steals in 40 minutes. Chandler Parsons left the game with a right hip injury, the severity of which is still unknown. It would not be surprising if Parsons was held out for the second of Dallas' back-to-back set on Wednesday night. The Mavericks are 1-2 against the Pelicans this season, with their lone victory coming on November 7 by a score of 107-98.
The Pelicans snapped a two game skid with a win over the Mavericks on Saturday 105-98. Anthony Davis led the way with 31 points (13-22 FG, 5-6 FT), 14 rebounds, a steal and a block in 43 minutes. Norris Cole added his own double-double with 16 points (7-16 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), a career-high 12 rebounds, four assists, and four steals in 38 minutes. Tyreke Evans missed Saturday's win due to tendinitis in his knee, but is expected to be back out on the court Wednesday. Quincy Pondexter, who has yet to play this season as he continues to recover from knee surgery, is listed as questionable for Wednesday. However head coach Alvin Gentry said he could still be a couple weeks away from a return, so the chances he takes the court on Wednesday are slim. With Saturday's win the Pelicans snapped a six-game losing streak in Dallas. They'll look to continue their winning ways against the Mavericks in front of their home-crowd on Wednesday.

Je mise sur des pélicans bien reposer, prêt a attaquer a domicile tranquillement, Dallas sera fatiguer c'est sur.

The Denver Nuggets (12-23) will face Northwest Division rival Minnesota Timberwolves (12-23) on Wednesday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
The Nuggets are quickly sliding towards the cellar of the Northwest Division and with a loss to the Wolves on Wednesday, they will reach that destination. Denver has gone 1-9 in their past 10 games, their most recent loss coming on Sunday against the Trail Blazers 112-106. In his second game back from a sprained ankle Danilo Gallinari led the way for the Nuggets with a game-high 29 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 11-16 FT), five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block in 36 minutes. Kenneth Faried was able to play in the loss only a game after enduring a scary injury to his neck which resulted in him being taken out of the stadium in a stretcher. In his return to the court Faried had 13 points (6-14 FG, 1-5 FT), nine rebounds, one assist, and a block in 27 minutes. Rookie Emmanuel Mudiay returned to practice on Tuesday who has been held out of action since spraining his ankle on Dec. 11. If he is able to play on Wednesday, it would most likely be in a limited role, coming off the bench for Jameer Nelson. The Nuggets are 2-1 against the Timberwolves this season, winning the last matchup on Dec. 15, 112-100.
The Timberwolves haven't been much better than their Northwest Division counterpart, going 1-7 in their past eight games. Their most recent loss came on Monday to the league-worst 76ers 109-99. Shabazz Muhammad had a season-high 20 points (8-11 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), with three rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 34 minutes off the bench. Andrew Wiggins added 16 points (4-9 FG, 8-10 FT), three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal over 25 minutes. Nikola Pekovic has a "50-50" chance of playing on Wednesday after being cleared for full contact practices last week. If he does play, it will be in a very limited role. The Timberwolves are lowly 7-10 at home this season.

The Utah Jazz (15-18) will do battle with the San Antonio Spurs (30-6) on Wednesday night at AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The Jazz are coming off a heartbreaking defeat to the Rockets on Monday night by a score of 93-91. The Jazz were up by 15 points at one point midway through the third quarter, but weren't able to overcome a James Harden led comeback by the Rockets. Rodney Hood led the team in scoring with 23 points (6-9 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 6-8 FT), seven assists, one rebound and a steal in 35 minutes. Gordon Hayward added 20 points (7-18 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block in 36 minutes. Derrick Favors missed his sixth straight game on Monday and his status for remains unclear. The Jazz waived Elijah Millsap on Tuesday, two days before the swingman's contract became guaranteed. The Jazz haven't won a road-game in six weeks, even worse, they haven't won in San Antonio in almost six years.
The Spurs have a chance to win their 30th straight regular-season home-game on Wednesday night. They are firing on all cylinders lately, having rattled off five straight wins, their most recent coming on Monday, defeating the Bucks 123-98. Kawhi Leonard once again led the team with 24 points (9-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, two steals, an assist and block in 31 minutes. Timmy Duncan added 14 points (7-12 FG, 0-1 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block in 27 minutes. Tony Parker has been ruled out of Wednesday's game as he continues to nurse a sore right hip which kept him out of Monday's win. At 20-0 mark at home this season, the Spurs have won by an average of 16.4 points per game.

L'handicap est énorme pour les Spurs par contre en regardant bien le tableau l'over peux largement être jouable ! (N'oubliez pas c'est 68% de réussite en Over-Under)

The Charlotte Hornets (17-17) will play the host Phoenix Suns (14-24) at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Wednesday.
Things are rolling down hill in Charlotte right now and this is a win they desperately need. They come into this matchup with a 4-10 record on the road and losing nine of their last 12 games in total. That rough stretch correlates with injuries to Nicolas Batum and Al Jefferson. Batum is questionable to play in this game, but Jefferson is surely out after getting knee surgery last week. Kemba Walker has been fantastic lately though, as he is averaging 26.8 points, 5.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals over his last six games. They'll need another performance like that from Kemba here if they want to get out of their recent slide and win against an even beleaguered team.
If things are rolling down hill for Charlotte, Phoenix has fallen off the cliff and is buried deep down in the ground. The Suns have lost nine-straight games with many of those coming against weak competition. That rough stretch directly correlates to an injury to Eric Bledsoe and it's clear this team is not the same without him. The whole Markieff Morris saga is a nuisance as well, as the owner recently called him out for his lack of maturity. Everything is falling apart in Phoenix right now and they are climbing up the lottery rankings seemingly every game with the way they are playing. There doesn't seem to be much to be happy about as a Suns fan and changes may be on the horizon if the struggles continue. With all that said, they still only come into this game as just a three-point underdog.

The Memphis Grizzlies (19-17) will play the Oklahoma City Thunder (24-11) at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
The Grizzlies have been an interesting team this year and it's tough to know what you're going to get on any given night. The team is synonymous with defense and while that was down at the beginning of the season, they have turned it around recently. In fact, they are allowing just over 92 points per game since the beginning of December. Memphis has opted to bring Zach Randolph off the bench lately and he had his best game of the season in their most recent win. He put up a 26 point-18 rebound line in a spectacular performance. One would think that games like that would get him back into the starting-five, but they're doing some bizarre things in Memphis right now. It's even more strange considering the state of the offense, as they rank 29th in scoring this year.
The Thunder had to play their last game without Kevin Durant and it was a nightmare result. Durant injured his toe last weekend and it appears he's unlikely for this game as well. In the game without Durant, the Thunder lost to a Sacramento Kings team as a double-digit favorite. This team really struggled in the first few weeks without Durant as well and it's a wonder why their so much worse even with all the talent they possess outside of KD. Oklahoma City comes into this matchup as a six-point favorite and this should be a good test for them without their MVP against a Western Conference contender.

The Los Angeles Clippers (22-15) will take on the Portland Trail Blazers (15-22) at the Moda Center in Portland, OR on Wednesday.
The Clippers are playing their best basketball of the season and it's coming at a rather strange time. They lost Blake Griffin last month to a quad injury and have been winning non-stop since. In fact, the Clippers come into this game in the midst of a season-long six-game winning streak. The team has opted to go to small-ball and everyone is performing better because of it. The most encouraging part about that recent six-game winning streak is that the defense is playing far better than before. It's scary to think that Griffin is due back soon and this team will ultimately improve.
The Blazers have also been playing without one of their best players recently and also playing better without him. The Trail Blazers had won four of their last five games before Damian Lillard returned for their last game, in which they lost to the Memphis Grizzlies. Lillard really struggled there as his stroke was off and he committed seven turnovers in the loss. It's bizarre that this team is playing better without Lillard and the only direct correlation is the team's defense when he's in the lineup. In any case, Lillard is still one of the elite point guards in the NBA and they are surely a better team with him in the lineup than out of it. What Portland has been thriving off of this season is their surprising rebounding, as they rank fifth in rebounds per game. This should be a close game, as the Clippers come into this matchup as a four-point favorite.
